I started my martial arts journey at a very young age in Judo where I competed in tournaments around the United States. This led to an interest in all disciplines. These include Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Wrestling, and eventually Mixed Martial Arts.

I managed professional kickboxing athletes and mixed martial artists throughout the Nation. I realized I had a passion for assisting athletes’ growth personally and professionally.

My son began training Jiu Jitsu in January 2022 at the age of four. His competitiveness, eagerness, and love of the sport allowed me to assist as a coach in the gym which led to a competition team in September 2022. In 2023, I decided to plan my first Controlled Combat Jiu Jitsu event with many more to come in the various disciplines of combat sports.

Rules Update in effect for January 18, 2025 event in Gaithersburg, MD. We have heard your feedback and are updating our ruleset that will be in effect for next week's event. Some updates will be announced via social media in the next couple days but we wanted you to hear it first.

  • Youth Guillotines will now NOT be allowed standing or grounded

  • Adult Blue Belts ARE allowed to perform straight leg legs, twisting is still NOT allowed

  • Previously, takedowns that ended in an opponent's guard did not lead to 2 points. This has been changed. 2 points will be awarded to competitors that initiate the takedown.

Controlled Combat cares about safety, your experience(s), and hearing from you. We received a lot of feedback since our inception in November 2023 and will continue evolving to make CC the most efficient, exciting, fun, family friendly environment for you as competitors, coaches, and parents.

09/2024

Controlled Combat is excited to announce Three Major Updates starting at our October 19 event:

1: $500 Cash Prizes Brackets: No Gi, Single elimination, No belt requirement, 15+ age, +/- 135 lbs. Female and +/- 175 lbs. Male Brackets, winner takes all!

2: Madison Weight System: This is a popular tournament format, as seen in many wrestling tournaments, where there are no weight classes for registration and Controlled Combat pairs competitors into brackets. The reason for this is to discourage weight cutting, especially in youth athletes. NOTE: Controlled Combat will ask for experience (belt), age, and weight and pair up competitors into fair and equitable brackets (Ex. a 7 year old grey belt weighing 60 lbs. will be competing against similar age, belt, and weight. They will NOT be matched up against a 10 year old, yellow belt weighing 80 lbs. - Weight will be checked the day of the tournament)

Rules Change: In the White/Blue Blue belt divisions, and equivalent belt ranking experience in no gi, twisting leg locks and neck cranks will no longer be legal. Controlled Combat cares first and foremost about safety. We also care about feedback from you as a competitor and this was important to the majority. If you have any other ideas, critiques, positives, please email us!

Why compete at Controlled Combat?

"This was the best grappling event we have been apart of because of the amount of mat time and feedback after matches our son got. The staff was also very accommodating by providing someone to coach him." - Hilarion M.

"Whether you are a beginner or advanced, everyone wants a well run meet. One that is organized, on time, and professionally run. But especially for the beginners, those meets that are chaos can discourage young people form ever going back. This was an excellent experience where our son could actually hear his coaching and as a result felt he got the most out of his rolls. Ecen the matches he lost, he felt good about the experience and made a new friend. This has recommitted him to the sport. We look forward to the next meet!" - Teddi B.

"It was a great experience. I appreciated how not only did you put safety first with the kids, but your team educated the parents ahead of time when there would be stoppage so it would stay safe. Elijah had a great time and can't wait to do it again." - Mara C
